Roy Lee Morgan September 16, 1935 to April 4, 2024 “Oh, I have slipped the surely bonds of Earth…” Early on the morning of April 4th, Roy Morgan, with his beloved wife at his side, passed away. He was a proud Colorado Native, born September 16, 1935 in Monte Vista located in the high mountain valley of San Luis. He was an enthusiastic student of life, a graduate of Metropolitan State University, the Founder of Air Methods Corporation, recognized as a Living Legend in Aviation, an Inductee to the Colorado Aviation Hall of Fame and a recipient of many other awards for his contributions to aviation. He is survived by his wife, Dian Horton, his daughter, Debi and his son, Roger, and their families. Roy was an idea guy. He was always trying to make things better, safer, and more effective. He loved helping others learn, improve and succeed. In 1980 his ideas and his caring came to fruition when he founded Air Methods Corporation. He believed having a trained medical team with access to excellent equipment, on site, and during transport, would save lives. He knew a well equipped, fast helicopter, with excellent pilots could deliver that. Today his idea has grown into one of the largest air medical transportation systems in the world with more than 100,000 transports a year. Besides being a successful entrepreneur, Roy was an excellent flight instructor with countless successful pilots to his credit. He was a skilled photographer and an all around handyman. His family and friends will remember him as a man who did things in the biggest way - from showing his love, to his never ending optimism, to his eagerness to help. He got the best out of people, but never expected more than he was willing to give of himself. We will miss him so much. Date and location of Memorial to be announced soon.
